Church of the Brethren districts

  • District Executive Minister, Michigan district

    The Michigan District comprises 20 congregations, including all of the lower peninsula of Michigan north of the southern tier of counties. Camp Brethren Heights is associated with the district and the district office location is negotiable. The district is theologically diverse and creative, biblically centered leadership with a broad, unifying perspective is desired to find the common foundation to continue to build God’s Kingdom together.

    This 1/2-time position (approximately 25 hours per week) is available on March 30, 2020. Travel is required both within and outside of district.

    RESPONSIBILITIES include three main focus areas:

    1. Direction, coordination, management, and leadership of the district program, as authorized by District Conference and implemented by the District Leadership Team.
    2. Work with the congregations in the calling and credentialing of ministers and in the placement/call and evaluation of pastoral staff. Providing support and counsel for ministers and other church leaders, sharing and interpreting of program resources for the congregation.
    3. Providing an important and crucial link between the congregations and the district and the wider church by working collaboratively with the Council of District Executives, the Annual Conference, its agencies, and their staff.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Ordained through accredited program, Master of Divinity preferred
    • Personal skills in organization, administration and communication
    • Committed to the Church of the Brethren locally and denominationally, along with ecumenical skills
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Pastoral experience preferred
    • Biblical leadership

  • District Executive Minister, West Marva district (Oakland, Maryland)

    This ¾-time position (approximately 30 hours per week), including many evenings and weekends is currently available. Travel is required both within and outside of district.

    QUALIFICATION:

    1. Christ-centered belief and practice
    2. Commitment to, membership, and extensive experience in the Church of the Brethren
    3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    4. Ability to serve and work with persons from diverse cultural, social and theological backgrounds
    5. Ordination and pastoral experience preferred
    6. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college along with seminary degree or completion of TRIM or other Brethren Academy programs
    7. Prior church experience as a pastor, staff person, or other related service is desirable
    8. Administration and organizational training and/or experience is highly recommended

Church of the Brethren denominational positions

  • Executive Director of Global Mission (Elgin, Illinois)

    The Church of the Brethren is seeking an individual to fill a full-time salaried position of Executive Director of Global Mission. The Executive Director of Global Mission is part of the Global Mission team. This position is based at the Church of the Brethren General Offices in Elgin, Illinois.

    The major responsibility is to guide and implement the international mission program of the Church of the Brethren; direct and administer denominational mission efforts; generate a responsive and integrated denominational mission structure with grassroots support and involvement; and nurture an ongoing conversation about mission (evangelism, church-planting, service, peace, and reconciliation) among membership.

    Skills and knowledge required:

    • Well-grounded in Church of the Brethren heritage, theology, and polity
    • Able to articulate and operate out of the vision and mission of the Church of the Brethren Mission and Ministry Board.
    • Significant understanding of mission theology and practice, with specific knowledge of relief, development, and/or church planting mission operations in the international context.
    • Extensive management and organizational skill sets developed through experience supervising multiple staff and administering multi-site programs.
    • Skills to coach highly educated and self-motivated professionals, many of whom are off-site domestically and internationally.
    • Ability to coordinate multiple processes and projects.
    • Strong skills in verbal and written communications.
    • Knowledge of cross-cultural adjustment, dependency issues, ecumenical cooperation, and interfaith challenges gained from working internationally.
    • Language capabilities in addition to English.

    Seminary degree or master’s degree in a relevant field required.
